On January 19, 2024, I wrote the 1st round of the 18th Annual NYC Short Story Challenge.
I was given the following criteria to use in my story:
Genre: Political Satire
Subject: Ad-Lib
Character: A fangirl
Time: Eight days
Maximum Length: 2,500 Words
This is what I wrote:
Several questions spun through a young girl's head:
If she had someone to tell her story to, would she know what to say?
Would she be labeled a "tattletale"?
Would anyone believe her?
Would people think that she is crying wolf?
Willow, who matured beyond her years because of her unfortunate past experiences, wasn't going to cry wolf and lie about what had been done to her. She needed someone to tell her story to and who would believe in her. It took men and women decades to break their silence and reveal the guilt and shame they carried with them.
Willow had no one to talk with. She lived in Uranium City, Saskatchewan where the winters were long and cold, but the summers were short and warm. The white folks lived in the town and the “Indians” lived in shacks along the hillsides. It was appropriate to call them Indians at that time and even “savages” because if you were on their land, they would chase you off their property. After the mines were closed down, Uranium City was abandoned.
The young child, Willow, was lost because she only had herself to talk with and try to understand the things happening around her. She asked herself several questions, “Why could her father go out drinking almost every night after work with these Indians and she wasn’t allowed an Indian friend to play with? Why was there so much violence around her?” On her first day of school in Uranium City, Willow received a black eye, and she was forced to tell the teacher who gave it to her. The next time, Willow ran and hid from this Indian, but her sister was beaten up as an alternative. After that, she faced her battles and this time she beat the Indian responsible. They became secret friends afterwards.
Not knowing any better and for years to come, this young child blamed herself for what happened, and she carried the most repulsive dark secret she could keep under lock and key in fear that opening it would be like opening Pandora’s Box. Unknown to this juvenile, however, Pandora's Box did not just enclose evil spirits but did include a compassionate creature whose undertaking was to aid in the healing of wounds inflicted by others.
Willow did not even have her mom to talk with about the abuse she underwent. Her Mom felt it was best to forget about it and she felt that over time, all the pain would go away on its own. Willow’s Mom felt uncomfortable and embarrassed about what happened to her daughter because she was not around to protect her. Willow’s Mom refused to have Willow consulted because she wanted this to remain underground.
“Mommy, what happened to all the Indian children?” asked Willow.
Sadly, Mom replied, "The indigenous children were separated from their parents and sent off to boarding schools to become civilized. They were not to speak their language, use their names, or practice any of their religion or culture. The parents were never told anything about their children."
Mom continued to explain, "The children were involuntarily forced to live in residential schools under the care of faithful, religious groups such as priests and nuns who were representatives of God and the community.
Ironically, this group kept their deep, dark secrets well hidden and were dressed in God’s cloth like that of wolves wearing sheep’s clothing who snatched, starved, tortured, beaten, raped and murdered these innocent kids. The screams of these youngsters could only be heard inside the walls of the institutions they lived in."
"The little girl, Willow, replied, "This was a most terrible consequence for the indigenous children, their parents, and the community. Everyone suffered significantly. To believe that these indigenous youngsters were under the care of the most trustworthy people, yet they treated the toddlers so badly."
Instead of civilizing these children, more than 1,000 unmarked graves were discovered across Canada using ground-penetrating radar throughout these residential schools.
The sorrow and the grieving will not stop until all the unmarked graves and the children’s spirits are set free. Only then can healing begin for those left behind. Only then will the truth come out. The deadly silence has been broken and the ugly, evil secrets have been exposed. Silence and secrets go hand-in-hand. They are both deadly.
"It was surreal," said Willow's Mom. "Chaos and protests broke loose. Several statues and churches were vandalized and painted with small red handprints spread apart and pointed upward. Some churches were burnt down to the ground and forest fires raged on. The heat did not let up. The natives released an annual official Orange Shirt Day T-shirt with the inscription, Every Child Matters".
The stairs to art galleries and city halls across Canada were adorned with children’s teddy bears, shoes, slippers, clothes hanging from railings and huge banners. One banner read, “Invest in OUR CHILDREN NOW. They are the future.”
The lifeless children lay trapped in darkness buried under the surface of the ground beside their schools, their spirits unable to be set free. The deadly silence and secrecy of the darkest and most evil deed of mankind has now been exposed. The survivors have now been given their chance to tell their story after being silent for so long. The gates of Hell have been woken!
After 1,000 or more unmarked graves were unearthed, the government of Canada insincerely manipulated the First Nations peoples by appointing the first Indigenous woman as Canada’s Governor General and approximately $89.9 million was funded for burial searches at residential schools. This was less than the $200 million the Native people requested.
Is this the price to become the first, Indigenous Governor General of Canada? What about the loss of over 1,000 children that will take a lifetime of healing? Another important question is, why did the government and clergy allow such a tragic event to happen and then reward them?
In addition to the Indigenous children being forced into residential schools, the First Nations people were also forced to live on reserves with poor water quality even though Canada is one of the world's water-rich countries. This movement onto the reserves deprived indigenous peoples of their water rights.
The absurdity of the government and the pharmaceutical industry became apparent when COVID-19 was reported five (5) years ago and was declared a pandemic in March 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO). This resulted in several vaccines being introduced and ridiculous individuals rushing to get vaccinated with a drug that had not been tested.
Would you have your body injected with a drug of unspecified medicine?
Furthermore, the government closed down all businesses and reduced family gatherings, the elderly could only wave to their relatives from the window standing outside their care homes, and grandparents could only see their grandchildren through a window as well.
First, the government announced that the most vulnerable, the elderly were affected by COVID and needed to be vaccinated. Soon after, it was believed that individuals over 40 needed to be vaccinated, and then those over 20. Finally, the government and pharmaceutical industry stated that children needed to be immunized.
Many small businesses ran out of money and had to declare bankruptcy. There were no social gatherings without wearing a mask and proof of vaccination. Hospitals were so overrun with COVID patients that surgeries had to be postponed.
If individuals showed symptoms of a runny nose, cough or fever, they had to stay home. Aren’t these the symptoms of a simple cold?
The folly in the language used such as, "The first Black man and the first "Miss Black America", etc. had to change for political reasons. It appeared and continues to look like a competition with everyone running for first place. The wording changed from the first "Black”, “Indigenous” or “Muslim” person. For example, the first black person was changed to,
“The first African American” president in U.S. history was Barack Hussein Obama.”
“The first Indigenous Woman appointed as Canada’s Governor General is Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary May Simon.”
The media flocked over Prince Harry and Princess Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, to get a glimpse of their first child in wonder if their first child was going to be the first African American royal child. In other words, people had to get a glimpse of this child to see if it was black!
Disney’s new “Little Mermaid” was played by African American Actor, Halle Bailey. The new Little Mermaid was created to inspire joy in young, black girls.
The first Muslim politician in Canada was "Rahim Jaffer”.
The first black Barbie and the first African American Ken doll were introduced by Mattel.
Willow asked her mother, "Mommy, why is the government letting so many immigrants into Canada?"
"Because, Willow, the government is trying to increase the population of Canada and the immigrants will take the jobs offered in Canada that the white folks won't do. If you look around, the Philippians and Asians take positions in the Health Care Industry, East Indian individuals will take jobs doing janitorial work or driving a bus or taxi, or they will be working as security guards."
Today, we just need to listen to the different nationalities. They are speaking several diverse languages, not just one. Is this a reoccurrence of the 13th century where Moses scattered all the sinful citizens around the world into their lands but, today, they are returning to our country?
"Mommy, why is the world so corrupt asked?” Willow.
"It has always been corrupted since the beginning of time” Willow's Mom replied to Willow, "We are just hearing more and more of the bribery in society in every sector such as politics, education, religious groups and sports to name a few."
Is the end of the world coming, Mommy?"
Willow's Mom replied, “The signs are all around us that, indeed, the end of the world is coming. We are seeing famine, war, and natural disasters, such as floods, fires, and volcanic eruptions. Politicians appear to know it as they appear to occupy themselves in sending spaceships to the moon, Mars, and other planets to test if the planet has water and is livable. It wouldn't be a surprise that the satellites and space stations being built in space will be the escape shells for important politicians and indignities, like in the movies, where government officials are placed in tightly secure areas until the danger is lifted."
Everyone is being manipulated from the most vulnerable individuals in society such as the children and the elderly by politicians, and the pharmaceutical industry.
The world has seen many troubling times, but the worst continues to exist today and that is “child sexual abuse.” This is an epidemic is filtering all areas of our lives.
